The winter is finally behind us and spring is sprung! Maybe you’re desperate to get your home and garden in order, or perhaps you’d rather escape to the great outdoors. You might even have time to take in an Easter event or two while you’re out and about. Here are some ideas to inspire and invigorate you for the month ahead.
Spring clean your home
If you’ve been more or less hibernating over the winter, you may feel ready to start getting your house in order in the coming weeks. It might be that you simply need to tidy up and get rid of the clutter, or perhaps you’re looking to give the place a fresh lick of paint, or to install a new kitchen or conservatory. There are plenty of great offers available at The Telegraph’s top-twenty DIY stores across the UK, so take full advantage.
Spruce up the garden
Once you’re done with the house, you might want to move on to the garden. After all, it’s nearly barbecue season! Get those green fingers ready for some weeding and planting now and you’ll thank yourself for it in the summer. It’s great to get out in the fresh air and transform your garden from winter wasteland to spring oasis between the April showers. If you fancy growing your own fruit and veg, this handy guide from The Guardian will give you some helpful hints and tips.
Enjoy an Easter event
Make the most of the Easter weekend with a seasonal trip out. You could take the whole family to a stately home or to some gorgeous gardens to celebrate the occasion. From spring lambs to Easter Egg hunts, the National Trust has a range of family Easter activities on its website. English Heritage also has some fantastic Easter options, and is offering some great membership deals* if you sign up in April.
Join a book club
As spring evenings can still be a little chilly, books are a cheap and cheerful way to entertain yourself and escape to a new land or time period. Why not join a book club and share your love of reading with other like-minded people? It’s a fantastic way to try out books you might not normally read and make new friends along the way. Use this link to find a book club near you or to set one up yourself. Waterstones has some excellent discounts on bestselling books*, so if you’re lacking inspiration it’s a great place to start.
Get a new pet
Pets are a great way to liven up your home and extend your family. Furry, scaly or feathered friends can offer great company, and if you pick an active pet, he or she could help you take regular exercise and get out into the fresh air more frequently. Maybe you fancy taking long walks with your dog or relaxing at home with your exotic fish. The grandchildren will love having an extra family member to visit when they come to stay!
Take a break
If you feel like a change of scenery, it might be time to get away for a few days. Whether you’re up for long walks on the beach with your spouse, or a cycling holiday with a group of friends, a short break can really rejuvenate your life. Rural Retreats is offering some great deals for April* if you’re looking for a bit of rest and relaxation in a luxurious cottage setting.
